Where Can You Start Your Blog?

GlobalStudent

For Victorian DEECD teachers who wish to set up a blog, your first port of call should be Global Student. This service is free and enables you to set up your own class blog as well as set up individual student blogs.

edublogs

edublogs is a great free service set up by James Farmer from Australia. Here you can set up Wordpress blogs for educators and students amongst others.

edublogs Tutorial

This tutorial in Word will help you join and get started with your own edublogs or Globalstudent blog.

21 Classes

Another blogging portal with an education focus is 21 Classes. 21 Classes enables teachers to set up a portal under which the student blogs can be listed.

Wordpress

Wordpress is the open source blogging application that is the basis for edublogs. You can download and set it up on your own server if you have the technical expertise.

Blogspot

Blogger is the original free bloggers site though it is aimed at the general populus rather than having an education focus. Most teachers prefer blog portals with this education focus.

Irfanview

Once you start blogging or using a wiki then you will need an easy to use image editor like the free Irfanview application in order to resize your images. Alternatively you can also use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to resize and do basic image manipulation.
